wasabigelatine’s very own tea blend

In my Holiday Gift Guide, I mentioned a company in the UK that creates custom tea blends. Visit the Blends for Friends website, fill out a form with a bit of information about the recipient including tea preferences and personal characteristics, and receive 125 grams of bespoke loose leaf tea packed in an elegant tin adorned with a clever label describing both the tea and the tea drinker. As a passionate tea enthusiast, it was necessary to put the service to the test. I typed a few things into the order form and selected “leave it to the expert” to create the style of tea — as opposed to choosing black, green, or herbal infusion — and trusted master tea taster Alex Probyn to work his magic.

In just over a week, I received the wasabigelatine blend — a wonderful infusion of Taiwanese Spring Pouchong (oolong), Chinese Bai Hao Silver Needle (white tea), lemongrass, hibiscus, and calendula. The result was a light, refreshing tea with a hint of tartness, and the colorful petals in the blend made it look as lovely as it tasted.

wasabigelatine is giving away five samples of its very own tea blend! Leave a comment about your favorite cold weather beverage. Winners will be chosen at random.

My favorite cold weather beverage? It’s my favorite beverage in any season: tea! Oolong is best, but as long as it’s actually brewed with real tea leaves, I’m in favor of it.

That loose leaf is beautiful. Is that your tea? I’m a tea fan myself. My favorite is Russian Caravan, a mild – almost creamy – black tea. Have you had it?

  3. Yup, that’s the wasabigelatine blend in the bottom picture! It’s been a long time since I’ve had Russian Caravan — I’ll have to try it again. Lately I’ve been sticking with first flush Darjeeling and genmaicha :)

That tea looks fantastic! I wonder what they’d blend up for me…
I’m a tea & hot chocolate girl myself, depending on my mood. I think I’ve lost track of how many teas I have around, but I’m only allowed the decaf ones after noon. :-)

That really is a beautiful tea! Maybe next time I’m in town, I should bring over some Russian Caravan and this other delectable cardamon pod tea blend. Since spotting them in Maine, they’re some of my faves.
