A few weeks ago, the Tribune’s dining editors asked readers to nominate the best neighborhood for dining in Chicago and the suburbs and have narrowed it down to three finalists: Lincoln Square, Logan Square, and downtown Forest Park. I chose Logan Square because of its ethnic diversity — you can get really good Puerto Rican, Mexican, Thai, American, Japanese, Polish, and Colombian food, to name some — and plethora of very budget-friendly options. Despite the number of yupsters in this quickly gentrifying neighborhood, there are few overpriced, trendy places and I appreciate the authenticity of many restaurants I’ve visited. The article, in fact, mentions some of my favorites — Pierre’s Bakery (European style bakery with a Latin influence), Lula Cafe (locally sourced/organic American), Sai Mai (Thai), and Cafe con Leche (Cuban, Mexican, and Puerto Rican).
But as of last night, Logan Square is placing a dismal third place with only 8.7% of the vote! What gives? Surely there are people out there who appreciate something a little more interesting than Forest Park’s greasy spoons, hot dog and burger joints, and generic pubs, or Lincoln Square’s creaky old German restaurants and dime-a-dozen trendy whateveryoucallits? Boooring!
Cast your vote in support of Logan Square here before the end of the day!

I can’t believe Forest Park made it on there! (I’m next door but I hardly dine there.)
