Wine and flowers at A.Vision

Last week I mentioned a wine and candles event; this week — and every week — it’s wine and flowers at A.Vision, a wine and floral shop in Ukrainian Village. The minimalist yet cozy little space offers just a few types of flowers at any given time, but the selection is well-curated to complement the wines. How do they create wine and floral pairings? A flower’s scent may be echoed in a wine’s bouquet, the wine and flower’s colors are similar, or perhaps together they evoke a certain vibe. Whatever they come up with, it’s a fun and novel idea.

This week, their featured pairing is a Barbera d’Alba (2003 Barbera d’Alba, “Valbianchera”, Almondo) and an adorable stem of miniature pumpkins (pictured at left), an autumn combination with lots of personality. I think they hold a free wine tasting every Friday from 5-7 pm, so they’ll probably be sampling this one.

A.Vision is also a full-service floral design company I’d definitely recommend — a couple of years ago, Josh gave me a beautiful bouquet they put together made of black calla lilies, dark red roses, and deep violet anemones.

Now you have no excuse showing up at your date’s house with a fistful of carnations and a bottle of white zin from Dominick’s.

A.Vision is located at 910 N. Damen (773-227-5700).
