Tatine Candles & Cellar Rat wine tasting event – Friday, Oct 12

Tatine Candles is holding an open studio sale in the Flat Iron Building as part of this year’s Around the Coyote arts festival. Candlemaker/owner Margo Bresnik’s husband Dean Schlabowske owns Cellar Rat Wine Shop just down the road, and the two of them will pair up for this event. Margo will open her production studio to the public for the first time and sell her wares while Dean offers a selection of French wines to taste for free. As a nice little extra, people who buy something from Margo’s collection will receive a coupon for 10% off a Cellar Rat purchase. Wine and candles — what could be a more romantic combination? (Surely not the Pontiac Cafe, overgrown frat boys ‘n’ trixies, and drunken live band karaoke around the corner!)

I’m a big fan of the Tatine Patisserie candles — they’re made with soy wax and smell like delicious sweets such as chocolate orange and crème brûlée. And I visited Cellar Rat a couple months ago; they recommended a stellar chenin blanc (2004 Baumard Savennières) so I’ll definitely go back and try something else.
