More is more – new food and wine stores in the South Loop

A gigantic new Whole Foods Market has just opened in the South Loop at Roosevelt and Canal. At 55,000 square feet, it’s the largest Whole Foods in the city and includes such features as a ten-seat Asian noodle and sushi bar, a gelato station, and an in-house meat smoker. But we’re most impressed with the spacious aisles and generous layout — no small treat for a city dweller.

If that’s not big enough for you, a three-level, 57,000 square foot Binny’s Beverage Depot is slated to open this November at 1132 S. Jefferson and will undoubtedly be the largest location in Chicagoland. According to this article in the Tribune, it will house seven separate shops, including a 60-person wine bar, gourmet market, wine school, gift shop and walk-in wine cellar for 4,000 rare and collectible wines.
